I got the single for my 11th birthday in March 68, when it was in the top 10. The embarrassing thing was, I was brought up listening to The Shadows albums as a youngster and they were always on TV shows like The London Palladium, so when Pictures of Matchstick Men was played on the radio, I thought the intro sounded like the Shadows, so I asked my eldest sister, if I could have the Shadows single for my birthday. :haha:

I'm convinced though that Francis will be dead against it. And they've got 50 years of Status Quo, the name itself, which is much bigger even and don't celebrate it either - although they might have if Rick were still there to take part. I guess that would've been one of those future projects involving Rick from last autumn that sadly never came to happen. It isn't the time for happy festivities so shortly after Rick's sad demise - it actually seems that big anniversary has been completely forgotten about. Maybe it could've been turned into the memorial event, not sure though that would've been right. Rick was very important and deserves a memorial event, but the band was/is more than him or any individual. Personally I've alway thought POMM was ok-ish, but nothing more. It would certainly not have turned me into a fan had I already listened to pop music. I seem to faintly remember my first own cassette were schlagers of the time, must've been early 70s ..

I suppose they might. It'd just really be an add-on to Pictures - 40 Years of Hits. Ten years since that. Amazing. :oo: If it resulted in the same number of set changes, I'd be up for it

I'm still hoping for a reprint or even expansion of the debut album, but it seems BMG aren't willing to do anything with it...

So (from memory) the bonus material was more or less what we got on CD1 from the BBC box set. Would've certainly been tempted to get this, but then I'd probably not have seen a reason to buy the BBC box set years later ..

Yeah, the extra stuff turned up on the BBC box set.
It's actually not that easy keeping track of all these old PYE releases. They've been doing it since year zero with the same old same old coming out in different packaging. The odd gems turn up (Fresh Quota in 1981 for example) but mostly it's rehash.

An expanded 2-disc expanded edition of Quo's debut album was released back in 2003. You cannot get hold of this anymore with paying an absolute fortune (About £140) on Amazon or Ebay! All the normal online music sites are sold out. I wish I'd bought it when it was released now. I don't have PMMFTSQ or Spare Parts on CD. This one looks really interesting with all the bonus tracks (most of them on the BBC release) and the Stereo version of the album.
They should release a new batch for it's 50th Anniversary.

They did release a similar version of Spare Parts at the time. The whole mono/stereo thing. Although with fewer bonus tracks. I've tried to increase the image size but failed miserably. But you get the idea.

But you get the idea. Just click on the image and you have it increased. That's how attachments work I never knew about the SP version either, but I guess I wasn't exactly looking out for those two albums. Shows how important proper marketing is .. Of course, he would now deny strongly trying to look cool. Too bad; he just was without trying.
