Does anyone know anything about this box set? I've bought it for £5 today from a vinyl seller in the market in Winchester, and wondered if anyone could tell me anything about it. It was dated 1982, and the third LP is live from the NEC, presumably in 1982.

Think this was released to tie in with the 20th anniversary thing if I recall correctly.
Released in three formats, cassette, cardboard box and the limited edition round blue tin which was individually numbered (I think).
I'm can't recall if the blue tin contained any exclusive tracks, I supposed it must have? Perhaps the recording of the BBC recording of the NEC concert, which until then, was unavailable in the U.K.?
That's my vague recollections of this and I stand ready to be corrected!
Thought that blue tin looked cool as anything and I think it was selling for £20 which was a lot of money at the time to this schoolboy. I was told by my Mum and Dad not to "waste" my money on it and I should only buy the cardboard edition.
Needless to say, I ignored that advice and bought the blue tin one and hid it under my bed. Of course, it was eventually found and didn't go down well with my folks! Not well at all.
Still got it though. Think it's up in the loft somewhere with a lot of my Quo stuff.

All pretty much bang on. The only exclusive tracks were the NEC recordings but not the entire gig. Just from the start up to Don't Waste My Time. Ten tracks I think. It came out about 4 months after the concert and the Caroline Live at the NEC single was pulled from it. The NEC live album came out on it's own about a year later as a Dutch import. One of the main things about this collection was that it was the first to have both Vertigo and old PYE tracks on it. The first time that'd happened I think. The tins were individually numbered.

I got the blue tin & cassette format. I didn't realise the compilation was £20, but I was working and money was no object then. I think it was the first triple album top get in the Top 5 UK album charts since the triple Wings live album 'Wings Over America'

I believe prince Charles has the only bronze tin. Limited & Individually numbered from 00001 to 50000. Prince Charles has number 00001 & his is supposed to be the most collectable piece of Quo memrobilia in the world.

there was a second batch of blue tins released without numbers Must've sold well then. Lack of numbers would mean they could always add more, depending on demand.

As far as I can remember, there was no difference in content between the cardboard and tin sets. If it was released in '82, it must have been late in the year because I didn't start working until September 82! I got the tin box - the first ones were individually numbered - don't know the number of mine! I do know that the live album in mine is pressed the same on both sides! I know people say that all quo sounds the same but that surprised me when I taped it! Aparently this isn't overly rare :-(. I was very glad when the Live At The NEC was released! The NEC that year was my first Quo gig! I went on the Thursday so that I could watch the Charlie gig on the telly on Friday night :-)

Always surprised me that we never got the entire gig on the Live at the BBC box set, just a partial DVD. I suspect many of us taped the broadcast of the gig that Tommy Vance put out on the Friday Rock Show a week later. It was also Quo's first live video release and it had more on it than the album. I've never heard of two sides being the same on the live album although I appreciate you saying it isn't considered rare. Probably explains, though, why the 'extra' versions of Over The Edge and Hold You Back released later sound exactly the same Nowadays the whole gig would have been on telly, probably on BBC 4 or something. But in them days, BBC 1 had to go off for the news. So we got up to Don't Waste My Time before they pulled the plug on all us armchair fans. The band, however, carried on with Francis saying something like "are we off air? Right then, we can relax now." As a Quo fan I started to get a bit miffed that there wasn't one official release of an entire gig for over 30 years. All we got were bits and pieces of gigs. We had to wait for Live at Westonbirt Arboretum in 2008 as the follow up to the Glasgow Apollo release. They're making up for it now though! And aren't they just?? :oo:
