Thought I'd put this on a spotify list and I'd forgotten that this is actually a really, really good song. Overall the album was a let down but this and a few others means it's worth a spin now and then.

I agree on both counts. The album isn't great (to say the least!) but this track and a couple of others mean that it isn't a complete write off.
One of maybe three songs from the album I play on a semi-regular basis. But, admittedly, most of it is pretty disposable.

Yep, the title track is really good. And I agree with the two of you, there are a few songs on this album that are good and not complete crap as the rest. To me these are:
Little Dreamer Not at all (best song on the album) Perfect Remedy (as I said) Address Book
And to some extent 1000 years...I don't know why, but I quite like it.

I absolutely love 1000 Years (don't tell anybody ) and basically go along with your list What I can't stand is Power Of RnR. That's just a wannabe 70s rock song and a pale imitation at that. Something else I've realised only recently is the sound. It's really good. Prefer it over Thirsty Work any day !

If that song had been recorded and produced with a bit of grunt it would have been a classic, albeit a bit of a 70s throwback. However, it is so clean and the production is so awful that it sounds like.... a wannabe 70s rock song and a pale imitation at that! It is possible that a re-mix and remaster could save it, but I don't see that ever happening. Shame.

The gay "oooh, ooohs" alone ruin the song for me.

Funnily enough I was listening to this track and the Power of Rock whilst on holiday last week, I love both songs but because of the album they are on I don't listen to them nearly enough.
Good choice

Think I feel much the same as everyone else on here about this album. nino, those are my favourites too! Think I could nod my head to Not At All all day. Great riff and a great grove. Really like that one but Address Book and 1000 Years are my favourites overall though. The Power Of Rock 'n' Roll is no more than an "alright". It's a bit John Farnham ish for me, bit of a pastiche really. Could do better.

I thought it was too close to John Farnham's track at the time and it sort of put me off a bit. Although they're far from a political statement sort of band, this was the second time that they'd mildly hit out at Middle Eastern values. The lyrics of Power Of Rock and Rollin' Home both have a little pop although the latter was written by John David of course. Odd though. The three for me on the album are Perfect Remedy, Address Book and Man Overboard. That last one, like the rest, is held back by the production but it's still pretty good. And lyrically Rick was right on form.

The gay "oooh, ooohs" alone ruin the song for me. I suspect they were meant for audience participation a la Dirty Water . I never heard it live so have no idea if that worked (although I somehow doubt it ..).

It never became embedded in the set like, say, Creepin' so any audience participation never really happened. There always seems to have been a split camp with Power of Rock. Many love it but an equal number think they were maybe trying too hard to recreate something. It's down as a Parfitt/Rossi/Williams composition. There aren't many of those about.

I do like the Power of Rock and thought they should have released it as a single. For me Not at All, Little Dreamer, The Way I Am, Heart on Hold (I know a lot of people hate it but I love it) and Man Overboard all make it worth a listen in addition to Perfect Remedy itself. However the other 4 tracks are up there with the worst things Quo have recorded.

I never can understand why people like Little Dreamer, never liked it at all.
The tracks on PR for me are PR, Power of Rock, Address Book and The Way I Am, possibly Not At All as well.
Not bothered about anything else.

Heart on Hold (I know a lot of people hate it but I love it) Indeed! To me that is the worst song they have ever done! Ever! snakelady: I haven't seen TPOR live, but watching at the live footage of NEC '89 on Youtube it didn't work out. At all.

I never thought about it as middle eastern. I could be wrong though.

I read somewhere that it was originally a Pip Williams song that he persuaded Francis and Rick to help him write, as he didn't like the direction the (Perfect Remedy) album was taking. He thought there weren't enough rock songs on it......he was right!

PR is my least favourite Quo album. It can hardly be classed as a 'rock' album. I find side one ok, but very poppy. A part from Man Overboard which makes an effort, (and 1000 years which is an ok ballad), I find side 2 dire.
Favourites songs are TPOR and PR. I too think TPOR would've have sounded much better if it had been recorded in the 70's or the 00's. I do really like that song, although I find it a bit sterile these days. The live version (recorded on the Rocking All over the Years video) was fantastic. I wished at the time they'd have released that concert on audio as well as video.
So, some good/ok/listenable tracks on this album, but overall probably as far from a 'Quo' album as you can get.

I remember finding the album in general just a bit bland and boring. Totally underwhelming.
I had a flat in the centre of Edinburgh at the time and was getting it ready to sell. I bought Perfect Remedy and couldn't wait to hear it. I listened to it for the first time while I was giving the place a coat of fresh paint. I suddenly realised after about 20 minutes that I'd stopped listening and my mind was wandering. A brand new Quo album had never done that to me before.
I always think if there's anything worse than music that makes you wince or squirm, it's music that has no effect on you whatsoever. It pretty much serves no purpose if it doesn't evoke some sort of emotion.
Alas, that's the effect this album had on me.

I could be wrong about the lyrics of Power Of Rock. I suppose its what I took from them. I may well stand corrected! Rollin' Home I think is pretty obvious. And not that mild. " I left my home one day for the sake of better pay; in a foreign land 12 centuries back in time". Then he moans his face off for a bit before having a bit of a pop. " But here your fate is justice of their God...." I think its probably about western workers in the desert. Doing what they do to unwind. Then getting their pasty ar$es kicked for it under Islamic Law Ironically, the video was shot in the Middle East! No way would Rick ever have written this twaddle!

Well, the POR lyics are even worse IMO and I doubt they'd dare write lyrics like the RH ones these days. They'd have to fear there'd be a fatwa and the IS would try to hunt them down (see Charlie Hebdo ..). Anyway, great video !

"But here your fate......."
I never realised that was the lyric!! I though it was something something "and I'll be gone" for which I blame the crappy hi-if that I had!!
Misheard lyrics.
I obviously knew the video was filmed in the Middle East but I never put two and two together there with the lyrics of the song. More fool me I suppose.
Status Quo in political song outrage shock!

Must admit, I always struggled to understand the lyrics to Rollin Home (what he says, not the meaning). It was only when they did the Aquostic version that I understood more of them and actually looked the lyrics up to understand the rest of them. It definitely makes more sense when you can hear what he's singing!

Yep a couple of good tunes on a hugely disappointing album, I honestly thought it was the end of them when it barely charted and the singles bombed. The cover made it look like a back to basics rock album was hidden inside, instead it was what they thought might be radio friendly maybe. The Power of Rock n Roll was the best track for me by a mile and I just loved it live , great track (think it was joint written by Fran and Rick , correct me if Im wrong I often am)
