Just watching this DVD for the first time in a few years. Really enjoyed it tbh, my thoughts:
How awesome would it be having Quo in your local pub? Why didn't Alan take part when John did? How feckin fast did they play with Jeff? Isn't 'Who gets the love' a cracking song? Why did John get kicked out of Blackies bar? Hearing Rick talk about Heidi made me well up. Is Matt the best drummer Quo ever had? Is it a myth that Quo played slower back in the day? I never knew that this MB was named after the B side to Matchstick Men! Why does John Smiths taste so good?

What Montreux documentary? It sounds like something I've never seen especially given the questions you ask! Then again, I tend to only watch them once so I've maybe forgotten

I thought this was a thread about the gig, but I can't say I've ever watched a documentary from the place ? Maybe I put the DVD back in its sleeve too fast back then ? Will have to take it out again and have another look .. The band was really good that night, but the audience makes it as near as impossible to watch.

Francis still wasn't talking to/getting on with Alan back then so he was never invited to do anything; he was almost airbrushed out of Quo history. Whereas they'd kind of made it up with John by then.
Listening to Quo Live (1976) these days, I find that too fast (maybe the 'speed' they were taking). I don't know exactly when they slowed down, but maybe it was to do with what dr*gs they were taking. By the time of End of the Road it was a lot slower. I like the tempo they've played at since Matt came on board.
I'm not sure about 'best', I'm not a drummer so I can't answer that; but I think Matt is also my favourite Quo drummer. Even as a non-drummer, there's some things that John did that makes me think 'really'! I don't have a problem with him though as a person or a drummer, just not my favourite Quo drummer.

I think that all Quo drummers have been first class but each one has brought something different to the party.
Poor Pete Kircher had the unenviable task of playing on 1+9+8+2 and Back To Back - two of Quo's worst albums in my view - and he had no opportunity later to retrieve his reputation. However, if you watch and listen to, say, Forty Five Hundred Times on the Charlie NEC gig he is superb.
John Coghlan's languid style on songs like In My Chair and countless others is absolutely perfect and Jeff, Matt and Leon are all technically excellent but also very powerful.
Matt also has the distinction of having written a couple of very good songs for Quo.

I think he's unfairly judged by some due to the albums that he played on but "live" he was something else.
I don't remember too much about Milton Keynes to be honest but I do remember Forty Five Hundred Times. Thought Pete played fantastically on that.
Outstanding.

I'm not a musician and I never had the good fortune of seeing John play but my favourite Quo drummer is Pete. Second favourite is Matt.
Don't dislike any of them though. Think both Jeff and Leon were/are great but I just preferred the above two more. That's all.

Live at Montreux, the Pictures documentary, 40 Years of Hits. I haven't watched it in ages, but I seem to remember Bob Young being interviewed in this most fascinating room with a kind of balcony at the back and Rick in red trousers sitting in his chair by the pool in Spain. If we knew then what we know now... That's the one. I really enjoyed watching it again.
