" Quo's Back" was on the reverse of some t-shirts on the .... Army tour if I remember correctly. Always thought that was quite clever. Great set - but it hasn't changed much

That's what I thought too - except I'd not call the set 'great'. I was actually shocked just how samey it is .. Why do I still hope for changes despite all the evidence right before my eyes ? How can any musician actually be satisfied playing the same 20-30 songs live - all his life nearly .. Concerning the Quo's Back t-shirts - I've already (once or twice ) told the story about my not knowing about the EOTR and in consequence thinking it were Back To Back album shirts.

That set was the first one I saw (at the Phillipshalle in Duesseldorf), so it has fond memories for me. I particularly remember that Rick sang Rock and Roll Music while playing piano, and Francis and Andy,(on Rick's guitar) left the stage behind Rick and re-emerged on Rick's usual side. I also remember how WYW as the opener was played at breakneck speed. Strange how little things stick in the mind.

I actually saw them twice on that tour - first the open air festival 'Out In The Green' on the Loreley and again - spring '87 I think ? - in Karlsruhe, where I studied at the time. We met another student I knew from uni there, who went completely crazy and absolutely loved the gig. I had last seen the band in '81 before and had thought it was ok-ish, but the 80s albums just didn't make me want to see them live again. The gigs in 86/87 were simply meant as a treat for myself after the accident. I've no memory of the songs that were played though, so obviously not that remarkable ..

I actually saw them twice on that tour - first the open air festival 'Out In The Green'.... (Scottish) Helen Nickenig gave me a copy of that a long time ago. I'll need to dig it out. I saw them twice as well; in Edinburgh and in Glasgow. It was the first time that I'd been to the 'new' SECC in Glasgow and remember thinking - big, shiny and new as it was - it wasn't a patch on the Apollo. The atmosphere didn't seem as good plus I was at the back. It also wasn't nearly as easy to get to. It still isn't. Glasgow have now built three concert venues on the one site; the SECC, the 'Armadillo' (where Quo are playing this year) and the brand new Hydro, which is vast. They never did put in place proper public transport links. Nothing has changed which is why we've stopped going through there. Its actually easier to get to Newcastle

Never knew a copy of the Loreley gig existed. All I've ever seen was Dinkelsbühl .. But yep, Loreley would've been as local as can be for her, so if someone knew about it having been filmed, it would be her. Oh dear, thought it was standard these days to erect venues close to highway exits and have their own tram and train stations, depending on the size, plus their own parking garages with enough space and easy access and exit. (If a little expensive - we recently paid 5€ at the SAP arena ).

I thought "Quo's Back" was on the back of the ITAN album too? mortified, if I'm going out to The Hydro/SECC/Armadillo, I go via the lower level at Glasgow Central. There's a stop called Exhibition and from there, there's a sheltered walkway that takes you to the front door of the three venues. I don't think it's too bad a service. Certainly beats joining the taxi queue or the dreaded walk back to the city centre in the freezing cold and dark.

Yeah, I remember doing that rail thing and up that walkway with a couple of mates when we went to see the Stones. Its the only time I've done it and it was a real trial trying to catch the last train back to Edinburgh. I think I'm probably comparing it to the Apollo too much. It was just round the corner from Queen Street Station. I suppose if I lived in Glasgow I might view it differently. In the 90's they put on special buses from Edinburgh to concerts in Glasgow but these stopped after about 10 years.
