It's a good poppy number but it does back FR's statement that Quo have always had there pop element. To be honest, in the main I think when Quo have done pop they have generally done it pretty well. Songs like BB ruin that theory

Is there a history here between the song and the departure of JC?

I don't think it's a coincidence.... 00008984

I'm familiar with the lyrics,I even know it's not written by Quo,but I have an opinion in this matter and hope it's still allowed.

It having been a choice in connection with John's parting had been my first thought back then as well - no matter who had actually written it or what the exact lyrics were. Otherwise I couldn't stand the single, simply a poor song - which meant it was the perfect representation for the 1982 album thumbs-down-clipart12 . Since I've heard the acoustic version for the first time about two weeks ago, this song has been haunting me though, playing in an as near as an endless loop in my head - HELP !

I remember that I liked it when it was fresh and new....the rest of the album turned out to be a disaster though....

I don't know if this is a pre-Quo demo or if the date on the YT video (1983) is correct or not, but this is writers John Gustafson & Jackie Macauley's band "Rowdy"'s version of Dear John.

You have started that dratted earworm off again. Can't get rid of it since hearing AQ2.

Another great single (IHO) Is it me or are they singing into Bananas on that clip!? They are bananas! Notice the odd instruments too. I think it was an advertisement, a precursor to the big red hands maybe. Tama - Bananas at LargeĀ® www.bananas.com/collections/tamaTama HT430B Round Rider Trio Drum Throne - Bananas at Large. Tama HT430B Round ... Tama HT430BC Round Rider Trio "Cloth Top" Drum Throne $ 99.99. So even when Alan was still in the band they were doing daft adverts with stupid props, just not for big name supermarkets.

I think it's a clip from Bananas, 80s successor of Disco (German TOTP type music formate). Think I've posted the clip of the theme tune before: The formate reached cult status for a while and the team used to ride on a big plastic banana as well ???
