The diamond day .... My take on it .... The absolute dogs bollocks of a gig.
My first time attending, however after a horrendous personal time of late, I took the opportunity to meet up with my good quo buddy Mr O'shea and venture out for the first time in 2016.
The venue - phoenix nights come rock venue.
Nice low stage, raised area to the side and back with additional seating areas. Friendly enough staff, no major waits at the bar, pints cheaper than wetherspoons and low key door staff.
Mikey and Jimmy acoustic - pisses all over aquostic, they really showed how quo songs can be performed well stripped down to acoustic level. Ace of spades on the ukelele was epic.
Spare parts - good three piece band, some rock covers and some quo. Good to hear some 90's, 00's and 10's quo plus the theme tune to the Sweeney.
Jackie Lynton - the legend, no a lot else to say apart from the legend.
Backwater - absolutely blinding set by backwater, full of the hard and heavy live favourites plus a great version of lonely man. Having seen backwater in Glasgow on a double header with stated back in 2014, backwater have become a really tight improved band.
Stated quo - having had backwater provide the live favourites, I knew stateds set would be filled with early seventies and album tracks, and that's just what they delivered plus the off audience request. 4 great musicians playing great music.
Hats off to Mikey for playing three sets despite his recent health scare.
Absolutely blinding day - can't wait to do it again next year.
