So what went wrong ? Btw. the icon is the fifth from right .. Now waiting for your first video .. That wasn't meant to be the video (I can't get on Youtube after 2pm at work)....but there was a reply to you Kathrin, so I don't know what happened to that! I think it said 'thanks for the help/info' Anyway, I was going to upload Lonely from the b-side of Rollin Home....love that song should have been on the album, but I couldn't find it on youtube. So this is my song of the day. Love the song (thanks Pip) and especially love this live version of it....great solo.

I know, Power Of Rock usually wins the poll about best song on PR, but I admit it's not my cup of tea. In fact I can't stand it, as I think it's an exercise in artificially creating a 70s rock song: Let's take all the ingredients, throw them together and the result should be what the fans want from the band surely .. It's not that easy though - this just isn't the genuine article - this isn't where the band were at that moment in time. Pip has explained how much of a hand he had in writing it, how he more or less forced it on the band - and that's how it sounds, at least to me. Other songs on that album may be ballads or country and thus not to everyone's liking, but they come across a lot more honest. In consequence I'd take Address Book or 1000 Years over POR any time .. @ Inna - I too love the Bula Quo album (only one skip track - MI) - and yep, from around noon this turned into a warm and sunny day here as well. Still, who needs an excuse to listen to that song !

Just something a little different and I've got my tin hat on!!
It irks me a little when folk still say "SQ records all sound the same" here's proof that they didn't.
This is the first Quo song that my Dad asked "Who's that"? as opposed to "Turn that ******" racket down.

Hadn't played the HT cd in a while but I did last night.
Nothing deep or meaningful, I just liked this when I first heard it and was probably my favourite track on the album after the first listen.
The great thing about this album (I think) is that it's the return of the Rossi/Young songs. Rhino contributed to this one too and I sometimes think that he doesn't always receive the credit that should as a writer in trying to nudge Quo in the direction that they should be going.
(I know you're only meant to have one selection per day but I've been lazy with this thread, so, I'm trying to make up for it).

Too close to the ground is a wonderful choice, gary. One of the most meaningful songs Quo has ever written/recorded.
I like your second choice, too. Heavy Traffic might follow a simple formula, but it rolls along nicely. I remember reading in the FTMO magazine that the song is a combination of elements from two different songs that did not work out well enough on their own.

If everyone had an open mind regarding Quo, they'd be pleasantly surprised when they heard songs like Too Close to the Ground.

Too Close To The Ground is by far the best song from side 1 of the album and at least for me the best ballad Rick has written. Beautifully sung by Francis as well. .. and I just love Heavy Traffic ! What a great set this was when HT and Solid Gold were included. Definitely the band's return to form live after they had managed that on record with UTI. Wouldn't it be absolutely great if HT would be re-introduced to the set ?! Oi, Mac, two classics played by a band still so young and determined to make it .. These days for me DWMT suffers from overexposure, I've simply heard it too often. With Paper Plane I haven't quite reached that stage and I hope I never will: It always gets such a fantastic audience participation when everybody sings 'we all make mistakes forgive me ..' - great to be a part of that.

Another good choice, Mac. Don't waste my time is a perfect example of how much melody can be incorporated into a rock song. That's the Quo I fell in love with in my teens

They played the first four tracks from Quid Pro Quo for the first time live that night. The crowd, as you can hear, loved them. They did not play Dust To Gold, Frozen Hero or Movin' On. Those are the seven tracks I like from that album. Here's Rock'n'Roll'n'You. 1:42   and 2:29   That you filming ? The clip suspiciously focuses on Rick even while Francis is singing .. :lolflg:

Seems they, too, couldn't get enough of Rick. But I was there , you know, there -> . Silly me. :lolflg: So what did you do .. blow him kisses ?

My Quo song of the day:
Favourite one from Quid pro Quo. It's a bit quirky, but a true rocker.

I was going to put that on 1st Dec! :lolflg: :sleigh: But oh OK, I'll make myself another coffee and listen to your Quo song of the day and Gary's one from the other day (TCTTG - love it too). I love this song, Ingo - great choice :rr-hbg:

I love Hold You Back! I think the whole intro is fantastic. This is one song that I actually prefer listening to the studio version than live versions (can't wait for the remastered RAOTW album)! I don't think they've ever quite done the introduction justice live...they play it too fast for me, and not deliberate enough and it loses some of it's magic. Buy hey, I still love the song

I love that song, too. It's one of my favourite tracks on QPQ. I think the first four songs are fantastic, especially Dust To Gold and Let's Rock (despite the lyrics ). I think Movin' On is great, Reality Check is OK, but Frozen Hero tops them all. I agree with you Inna, I like the same songs off QPQ. Two Way Traffic and Movin On are probably my favourites; I like Reality Cheque, but think it is one of those songs that needs to be recorded in a heavier, more bluesy style; the end part could have been even better (imo) if it was longer, and you took out the vocals....but it is what it is and I still like it.

Don't have the time to check if this one has already been entered. If it has, sorry.
Going through a phase of listening to cds that I haven't listened to in a while and last night it was ISOTFC.

Good choice, Gary. I think I'm going to listen to ISOTFC later... And you're absolutely right, Neil. The intro to Hold You Back (and not only that) is fantastic. Perhaps I should give the album a listen again some time... I keep holding off listening to RAOTW, waiting for the remix to be released.....I've been waiting a long time!! What does it say in the latest FTMO, have we got a timescale yet....come on....what are you waiting for!?!?! fish-head-smash-smiley-emoticon

In a weird way I love and hate Tongue Tied. I love it as a song, the whole feel of it; but I very rarely listen to it! I just find it so sad/depressing and poignant; even more so than 'Too Close to the Ground'.

Tongue Tied is simply wonderful: beautiful melody, beautifully sung and such sad and touching lyrics  Quo have come up with quite a few lovely ballads and this is one of the very best. ISOTFC is one of my all time favourite Quo albums. It has stood the test of time well for me and still gets played on a regular basis. There's only 2-3 tracks on it which I always skip (Gravy Train, Bad News and occasionally Figure Of Eight).

Actually it was the 2 CD version: "Still in Search of the Fourth Chord": it also has a live CD and I was looking for a Quo album before going to my first ever Quo-concert... That first Quo concert quickly made me decide to go and see Rossi solo! . I do skip the same songs as you Snakelady, but Tongue Tied is just wonderful and as you described it. So glad it was in the setlist on Rossi's  solo tour!

We haven't had anybody contributing a song for a few days, so I'm going to add another one. This time one of my favourite covers:
Must be really difficult to sing that fast, so I'd never expect to hear that one live .. Still I love how Francis sings it.
