I don't like Thirsty Work and I guess a lot of it is down to the sound (production) of the album. There certainly are a few nice tunes on it and Tango sure is one of them and innovative, but the whole album sounds so sterile and lifeless. Wow, I'm of the exact opposite point of view. To me, sterile and lifeless is precisely what it isn't. I know it's not a popular album with many a fan though but it's one of my favourite Quo albums. I even like at as much as One Step At A Time (but then probably many who dislike Thirsty Work with a passion would say the same thing ) I'm one of those who love OSAAT, really like KOTD, but can't stand TW. That's why it always gets on my .. nerves when people say it sounds like a Rossi solo album. No, it doesn't ! smilie_hal_086 .. and we already knew that you've got dubious taste, Rich. There's no need to prove it again ..

So I'm going to give Mac a chance to add his song of the day choice for today .. for now .. How do I do it? How do I actually add a song from Youtube?? That's easy: You choose your video on yt (or wherever else) and copy the url (that http ... stuff) then you click on reply - same as when you want to use graemlins. In that header there's a symbol that looks like those black and white thingies that are used for film takes. Click on it and on the top, where it asks you for video url you insert the link. Then all that's left to do is to click on insert video and once you've created your post the video appears In case you want to insert graemlins, pictures or similar you choose the picture button to the left of the video button .. Go for it Neil - Mac hasn't been online as yet

Great choice, Mac The current start to the gigs with Caroline, Paper Plane and Hold You back is the best ever IMO. Those three songs really get everybody going - it's only afterwards the drop in quality sets in ..

I hope this works but I have my doubts....................
I picked this just because I really like it and I was there. Just always liked this song and I think this was a pretty good performance of it. Think Alan has a brilliant voice and this proves it (well, it does to me anyway). Pete is brilliant on the drums too. Just watching this again and seeing Rick, I think he looks a little sad. Sad as in unhappy as opposed to pathetic etc. He obviously didn't want to stop.

Listening to it through headphones I'm only able hear the right channel :dunce: . I'd not call Alan's voice brilliant I must admit. It has always worked live with this kind of songs and I thought he sounded great on the first reunion tour, though not quite as good on the second. Backwater and even more so Just Take Me were highlights of these tours. Studio recordings are a different matter entirely for me. I've always skipped all songs sung by Alan up till Over The Edge I think. He sounds so thin and like somebody was strangling him while he tries to sing. IMO he has always been a far better songwriter than Rick, but equally a far worse singer. A Year or Over And Done are among my favourites on their respective albums - but they depend on Francis singing them. I don't think Rick looks anything but completely stoned, but maybe I'm just being cynical .. And I never saw Pete Kircher live as I had stopped going to Quo gigs in 81 to only return in 86.

Hmm, perhaps we should put the kettle on? Alan (in my opinion) is a great singer, I think one of the reasons why Quo became so big is cos they were primarily a vocal group, with 3 great singers. Alan's voice in particular has a great raw, honest blues feel too it. Both Nuff and Parfitt as song writers and singers have come up with great stuff. Maybe this one might be a good reminder?

The 'usual 'video not available' , but I know the song anyway - and while OTL is my favourite Quo album, I still skip this song and BBJ, always have. BBJ was great live back then though, when done in full and I'd never have considered skipping it on the live album. Don't know if Broken Man has ever been done live ? (I think the lyrics are ridiculous though, they're so wannabe 'tough guy hitting hard times', considering the life the band were leading ) If it's of any consolation - I don't f.e. like nearly all female voices either, apart from really deep ones like Tracy Chapman .. And I'd take in Alan as additional singer for Quo gigs now, if it would work on a personal level, because his voice is in far better shape than Rick's these days - just not on a studio recording.

My all time favourite Quo song: There are as near as no videos of this song from the 70s and the quality of the Madrid video is rather poor, sadly. For MOTT alone the FF reunion was worth it happening (but there were a few great others as well).

I was at this particular gig, Rossi let the crowd have a good sing song at the end!
