I don't think it will be this year now. I think there will be a Memorial at some point. It took Deep Purple 2 years to do a tribute to Jon Lord. He died in 2012 and the tribute concert took place in 2014.

I knew Jon Lord had gone but whoever has taken his place (Don Airey maybe? Not sure) is doing a great job. Some of the keyboard work on the new album Infinite is Mr Lord to a 'T'.

Don Airey has been with Purple since 2002 when Jon retired from the band. He's been on 4 albums so far, Bananas, Rapture Of The Deep, Now What? and Infinite.

It must be the 40th anniversary of Elvis Presley's death next month and Marc Bolan in September.

It must be the 40th anniversary of Elvis Presley's death next month and Marc Bolan in September. I remember these things as if it was only yesterday. I was speaking to one of my brothers earlier today about a goal that Gordon McQueen scored. I knew it was a while ago but seemingly it was 40 years ago too. Roll Over Lay Down entered the charts at about this time of year 37 years ago! Must be be a sign of growing old/maturing.

I often wonder how that happened, seems two minutes ago that Rossi/Parfitt (and my parents) were in their prime and invincible. Enjoy every second I say. Turn Quo up loud, sup a beer (or 12), laugh a lot and enjoy.

I've always tended to dip in and out of Purple over the decades. My favourite band via Machine Head before I discovered Quo. Saw them on the Burn tour but after that sort of lost interest as they moved into more soulful territory. I paid no attention to the 80's reunion. However, I recently discovered the album Bananas which I think is a cracker and have kept an eye on them ever since. But who needs a history lesson on a Sunday morning?

As for this whole doesn't time fly thing, I think it must be age related. It feels like the 80's wasn't that long ago but when you actually calculate it, it was half a lifetime. I often watch TOTP 1983 on BBC 4 and not only is the fashion pretty scary, so is the fact that the music doesn't look or sound that dated! :oo: Unless your 18 of course in which case it must look ridiculous. Watching Belle Stars the other night almost made me cry about the passage of time and how it seems to speed up I think I'd better go have another coffee. Talking of speeding....

Elvis Presley died on 16th August '77 and not in July, as I previously mentioned. Marc Bolan died I6th September '77

.. and a few years later it was John Lennon .. and then Bob Marley .. All so very long ago, when you think about it - we were young then. I tend to still consider the 90s and its music 'recent' though ..

I think 37 came to mind because that's the position that it entered the charts.

I think that's correct but it's just one of those things that I remember. My memory is good at remembering all the things that are not all that important, like football results etc and things related to music/Quo. For the really important things? My memory is not that great to be honest. Ask me where I was last Thursday and I'd say, "no idea. I haven't a clue".

Bang on! I'm exactly the same. I can recite almost chapter and verse when Quo singles were released and what they did in the charts back in the 70's and 80's. Or who won the FA Cup in 1968 and the European Cup in 1983. But ask me to remember my sister's wedding anniversary or even what I had for dinner and I'm scrambling around fumbling for answers! I think it's called selective memory I retain so much irrelevant rubbish and discard a lot of what matters. I think its a bloke thing

Will be my first Quo gig that's minus the electricity. Quite intrigued and looking forward to it. Even persuaded the wife to come along again, despite saying numerous times she'd divorce me if she ever had to endure Quo again
