Now that Rich has departed what are we going to do about the Quo Cups? I know that only a few of us took part but it was one reason I joined this board. I'm too old for quick-fire quizzes, reaction times far too slow these days. It was enjoyable being prompted to listen to half-forgotten or little known songs and comparing them and discovering other members' tastes. :confused4:

If anyone has any ideas or even wants to set any going themselves then feel free, it's your board folks.

Aren't we in the middle of songwriter competitions ? - We've had Rossi/Young, Rossi/Frost and Bown so far, so what about the rest of them ?

Will try and sort something if people want it, working a lot of (silly) hours at the moment i'm afraid... :zzzz: Pretty sure i don't have the kind of encyclopaedic Quo knowledge to make a proper do of it though so if anyone wishes to do it then feel free.

OK, will give it a go to see if the interest is still there as people have asked. I have set the end date for the first round for the 30th of September to see what sort of response it gets. You can pick up to three from each round. Fire away.

Thanks for staging the 60s cup, Rich - that was a lot of work with all the links added conveniently for participants ! Time for the Hello album now, maybe .. ? And another one for the future: Gatesheadbanger, the guy who does the competitions on imb had the idea that we should do a Quo riffs poll as well and compare results afterwards, as we're likely to be less biased towards FF or won't refuse to even listen to anything post '85.

Riffs eh? Nowwwww, where the heck to start with that?! I'm not sure what even defines a riff tbh. (Yep, me a guitar moozic fan, doesn't know the definition of a riff ) I'd be very happy to do that sometime, if someone can give me a list of tracks (and also what bit in the track is the riff lol!) - Thanks for the suggestion btw, and to Gatesheadbanger
...
If you fancy doing Hello! then I'd be more than happy with that, else I'll get round to it sometime I expect
I was thinking of sticking with the decade theme for now (not necessarily in order though), then finally pitting the top 10 or so from each decade into a combined competition. So ... unless anyone fancies otherwise, for now I'd be erring towards the 80s next, maybe in a day or two...

May be controversial, but what about least favorite tracks?

We could simply copy the lists from over there, so we wouldn't have to come up with suggestions ourselves - although, I suppose a lot of newer riffs wouldn't be in it then, so maybe we should add one or two ? As far as I'm aware .. A riff is a characteristic guitar motif that appears repeatedly - typical for a riff for me would be that sequence of tunes in You'll Come Round f.e. that's repeated throughout the song. The idea to continue with decades is a good one . I merely mentioned the Hello album, as we've done those albums from the start with larger intervals beside the other 'real' polls - in a not only what, but why kind of way. @ Sam - don't we get just these as well when we vote for favourite tracks ? Although - the results could differ if we explicitly voted for least favourite, wouldn't surprise me at all ..

That riffs one sounds fun - it'd take some flicking through every track since the early 80s though, but that's hardly a penance That's one in the ideas box ... for now at least anyway.
I quite like Sam's idea too. I remember when I first joined back in the dark ages I did something similar but it just created loads of anti-current Quo comments, like there weren't enough already. Can't help thinking it'd work just fine here though.

The 80s were Quo's worst decade IMO. Still some great and some very good songs on those albums. So this poll could get interesting - looking forward to it.

Some day soon, we could possibly do an Aquostic cup:
- Which of the tracks from Aquostic (incl. Bonus Tracks) do you like best? - First round: 5 votes allowed. Best 10 proceed. - Second round: 3 votes allowed. Best 5 proceed. - Second round: 2 votes alloud. Best 2 proceed. - Final round: one vote for final winner.
A similar cup could be done with: Which of the songs they played at the Roundhouse impressed you most? (with a link to the full-gig youtube video for those who haven't seen the gig yet)

Next: The Noughties? Or something else ... ?? Looks like you stay away from the 70s as they'd keep you really busy .. Nope, seriously choose whichever decade you want next - we'll gladly take part .. and thanks again for staging the 80s cup The winner may not be to my liking, but it was interesting to see what we made of that decade - which songs we preferred - and that there still were some quality tunes to be found.

60s done, 80s done, 00s next, then do the odds: 70s 90s and 10s.
Then after that, do the same for all Cliff Richard songs :haha:

Ingo, good idea, and if you want to take up Kathrin's suggestion that'd be great if you do that - (if you've not the time though let me know and I'll get round to it soon)
